CHEF BOUTONNE is approx 4km away with its fairytale chateau Javarzay and 'Lavoirs' (ancient wash houses) which bubble with ice cold spring water, has a bustling market with stalls of freshly caught fish and local produce.

The regional speciality, Pineau de Charente, a delicious aperitif is served in pavement cafes in the town square. Fishing permits can easily be obtained for a days fishing at CHEF BOUTONNE in the well stocked Chateau lake.

Why not travel a little further and visit Angles-sur-l'Anglin in the Vienne, one of France's most beautiful villages.

 

 

 

Near MELLE you will discover no less than three magnificent Romanesque churches which during summer months become venues for the festival of Baroque music in August.

 

Further afield approx 1 1/2 hours drive away, there is the sea at LA ROCHELLE for swimming, body boarding, surfing or just relaxing and absorbing the atmosphere in one of the many quayside cafes and restaurants on its colourful harbour.
